Dedication of Bench in Memory of Rev. Donald Royce Collins. The First Presbyterian Church of Elberton, Georgia dedicated a new granite bench in the church’s garden facing the playground immediately following the main worship service on Sunday, November 18, 2007. The bench was given in memory of their beloved pastor, the Reverend Donald Collins, who served the church from 1966 to 1975, by Shelvyn and Ann Gunter. The Rev. Michael Woods, current pastor of First Presbyterian, officiated the ceremony. Pictured above is Mrs. Clara Collins, the wife of Reverend Collins. Pastor Collins passed away on March 25, 2007 at the Health Center of the Presbyterian Home in Clinton, SC.
Installation of New Pastor - The Rev. Michael Woods. A commission team from the Northeast Georgia Presbytery formally installed the Rev. Michael W. Woods as Pastor of First Presbyterian Church of Elberton in a service of installation on December 2, 2007 in the church’s sanctuary. The Rev. Joanna Adams of Morningside Presbyterian Church of Atlanta, Georgia gave the sermon entitled, “We Are Able,” before the assembled congregation, which included members of First Presbyterian, visitors from the city of Elberton and the surrounding area, and friends of Mike and Myong from Morningside Presbyterian Church. The relationship between the new pastor and the church was sealed with the Rev. Bill Mounts propounding the constitutional questions to Rev. Woods, and Elder Joan Brown askingthequestions of the congregation. Fellowship and refreshments followed the service in the church’s fellowship hall. Afterwards, Rev. Ken Meeks, Executive Presbyter for Northeast Georgia, remarked that there was a positive mood of hope for the future that marked the occasion of the service. Pictured above, from left to right: Rev. SAFEHOUSE MINISTRIES Thanks in part to your generosity during the month of February, SafeHouse Ministries was able to serve 114 individuals, provide 88 bags of groceries, and cook 465 meals for their clients. SafeHouse provides shelter for victims of domestic violence and for the homeless in ElbertCounty. First Presbyterian sends a monthly donation to SafeHouse.
