The Gathering

Words of Preparation

When I look at your heavens, the work of your fingers, the moon and the stars that you have established; what are human beings that you are mindful of them, mortals that you care for them?

- Psalm 8: 3-4(NRSV)

Welcome and Concerns of the Church

Prelude

The Call to Worship  Myong Kim

Leader:  Give judgment for us, O God, and defend our cause against an ungodly people.

People: For you are the God in whom we take refuge, why have you cast us off?

Leader: O send out your light and your truth, that they may lead us to your holy hill.

People: Then we shall go to the altar of God, to the God of our joy and gladness.

* Opening Hymn  Holy, Holy, Holy # 68

Pastoral Prayer Rev. Mike Woods

Anthem  Choir

Call to Confession

Prayer of Confession (in unison) Myong Kim

Faithful God, we confess our faithlessness. Our hearts are fickle, and our eyes wander, and we trick ourselves into serving false gods. We speak lies, and accept lies, and live lies, destroying ourselves along the way. Have mercy on us. Forgive our waywardness and lead us back to you. May your faithfulness embolden our trust in you, and may your truth settle our souls. Amen.

Kyrie Eleison (sung in unison) willan

Lord, have mercy upon us. Christ, have mercy upon us. Lord, have mercy upon us.

Assurance of Forgiveness

*Response in Song Glory Be to the Father gloria patri

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost.

As it was in the beginning, is now and ever shall be.

World without end. Amen. Amen.

Passing of the Peace

Leader: Friends, since we have been reconciled to God, let us also be reconciled to one another. The peace of Christ be with you.

People: And also with you.

(Worshippers may greet one another in the spirit of God’s peace.)

Interlude

The Word

Prayer of Illumination

Creation Scripture Reading Genesis 1:14-19 nrsv

And God said, "Let there be lights in the dome of the sky to separate the day from the night; and let them be for signs and for seasons and for days and years, 15 and let them be lights in the dome of the sky to give light upon the earth." And it was so. 16 God made the two great lights-- the greater light to rule the day and the lesser light to rule the night-- and the stars. 17 God set them in the dome of the sky to give light upon the earth, 18 to rule over the day and over the night, and to separate the light from the darkness. And God saw that it was good. 19 And there was evening and there was morning, the fourth day.

Leader: This is the Word of Our Lord,

 People: Thanks be to God.

 prayer of great thanksgiving

Leader:  The Lord be with you.

People:  And also with you.

Leader: Lift up your hearts.

People: We lift them up to the Lord.

Leader: Let us give thanks to the Lord our God.

People:  It is right to give our thanks and praise.

Leader:  It is truly right and our greatest joy …

…who forever sing to the glory of your name:

All: Holy, holy, holy Lord, God of power and might, heaven and earth are full of your glory. Hosanna in the highest. Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord. Hosanna in the highest.

Leader:  You are holy, O God of majesty….

…With thanksgiving, we offer our very selves to you to be a living and holy sacrifice. Great is the mystery of faith.

People: Christ has died, Christ is risen, Christ will come again.

Leader: Gracious God, pour out your Holy Spirit upon us…. Amen.

Affirmation Of Faith  From The Apostles’ Creed

I believe in God, the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth,

And in Jesus Christ his only Son, our Lord; who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified dead, and buried; he descended into hell; the third day he rose again from the dead; he ascended into heaven, and sitteth on the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead.

I believe in the Holy Ghost; the holy catholic church; the communion of saints; the forgiveness of sins; the resurrection of the body; and the life everlasting. Amen.

* Closing Hymn  Break Thou the Bread of Life (vs. 3 & 4)  # 407

* Benediction Rev. Mike Woods
